“Of Mud, Media, and the Metropolis: Aggregating Histories of Writing and Urbanization,” Cultural Politics 12:3, Special Issue on Geological Media, edited by Jussi Parikka (November 2016) [images available here]
I was honored to be invited to share a chapter from my forthcoming book, Ether/Ore: Archaeologies of Cities and Media, at the University of Amsterdam in May. This particular chapter, “Of Mud, Media, and the Metropolis: Aggregating Histories of Writing and Urbanization” will also appear this fall in a special “Geology of Media” special issue of Cultural Politics, edited by Jussi Parikka. You can find my slides here.
At the wonderful Network Archaeology conference organized by the fabulous Nicole Starosielski and cris cheek at Miami University in Ohio in April 2012, I presented “Digging Through Archives and Dirt,” which addresses what media archaeology, especially one concerned with the “deep time” of media, can learn from archaeology-proper and architectural history. You can find my text and slides here.
